Frequently Asked Questions
What is a skirt guard?
Also known as a dress guard, coat guard, or skirt/coat/dress protector, a skirt guard is a bicycle accessory that attaches to the back wheel of your bike. It prevents clothing such as flowy skirts, long coats, and trousers from becoming tangled in the spokes and back brakes of the bicycle, thereby making it possible to commute by bike in everyday clothing. It is a common and standard feature on bicycles in countries that have a long history of bicycle commuting, such as the Netherlands and is a very useful tool for those who do not want to alter their dressing habits in order to ride their bikes.
Do I need special tools or skills to attach the skirt guard to my bike?
Our plastic model can be attached in minutes with no tools by anyone - assuming it is the correct size for your bike. The "leather" version, however, can sometimes be a bit more involved, depending on how your brakes connect, and if you have a rear basket already installed. You will need to be able to disengage the rear brakes and remove the basket to install the guard, so some tools may be necessary to do so.
Does the skirt guard create wind-resistance?
The skirt guard model that is solid might create some wind resistance on very windy days; however, in our experience, it has never been a problem – it merely feels a little strange. The other models that we offer do not create wind resistance because they are permeable.
